I am going to try something new today to see if there is any interest. I thought it would be kind of cool to post some past news events now and then. Well let me know what you think.
I just found out that last month, June 17th, was the 40th anniversary of the start to “Watergate”. On that day in 1972, 5 men were arrested for breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters. This scandal would become full blown within the next 2 years leading to the resignation of President Nixon, charges levied against 69 government officials and the conviction of 48.
I wasn’t interested in the news back then. I was far more interested in figuring out which cereal box had the best toy. The only thing I can even remember is how famous Nixon’s “I am not a crook” quote had become. I didn’t even know what the “Watergate” scandal was until much much later in my life. This is probably a sad thing to reveal, but I could have cared less about politics until my mid thirties. That was when I started to realize how important it was to stay informed on the whole process.
On a lighter note, on July 20th of 1977 the “Viking I” will have landed on Mars and brought us the first color pictures of our planetary neighbor.
