Look on the bright side. At least your mom didn’t make it!

I see a recurring theme here…
I am not a big fan of political correctness, mainly because I think it has been taken to the extreme these days, but I still have to bring this one up. Really? When did women ever just hang around like this? Oh well, at least we get to make fun of more 70s fashion!
Ummm… this ad does a fine job of making fun of itself.
Love the future pimp daddy on the far right.
Rofl, I remember when big belt buckles were in style.
Women’s Perfume from 1973
Here is a selection of ladies perfumes from Eatons 1973 catalog.
There were several that I recognized like “Prince Matchabelli”, “Tigress from Faberge”, and “Coty’s Emeraude”.
It may be a bit of a cliche, but my first memory of a women’s perfume was when my first “serious” girlfriend used to mail me letters that she sprayed with the perfume she wore. I couldn’t even tell you what perfume it was, but I still remember that smell even today.
Do you remember Mood Rings?
I still remember getting my first mood ring when I was a kid. It was usually a deep blue color when I wore it. (Not sure what that means.)
“I bought my wife a mood for Christmas. When she is in a good mood it turns green. When she is in a bad mood it leaves a red mark on my forehead.” – well known joke.
According to Wiki the mood ring was invented in 1975 by two New Yorkers named Josh Reynolds and Maris Ambats. They first retailed for $45.00 for a silver setting and $250 dollars for a gold!
I found this interesting tidbit from about.com – “It’s reasonable to expect your mood ring to last a couple of years. Some mood rings last around five years. Few mood rings from the 1970s have survived with functioning stones to the present day. Mood rings are notoriously susceptible to water damage.” (I always wondered how long one would last.)
What about your first mood ring?
Costumes from the 70s
Do you remember when costumes were not just for Halloween? Here is a selection of costumes from the 1970s JCPenny Wishbook.
You can see many of the “norms” for costumes like “The Lone Ranger”, “Batman”, and “GI Joe”. Kind of simplistic compared to the varieties of today. I wasn’t into the whole costume thing as a child. I think my imagination was too big for a costume lol.
Update: I just remembered those cheep plastic masks that you would get with costumes. You remember the rubber bands that held the mask to your face? They would always get tangled up in your hair and it would hurt like the dickens trying to get the mask off. And after you wore it a couple of times the plastic would crack on the mask and start poking your face. But we would still wear it! lol
Fuzzy Slippers
Men hated them and women loved them. To this day I can remember the fuzzy slipper battles in our own house. It seemed like every year someone would buy my mom the biggest, weirdest, pair of fuzzy slippers that they could find to my dad’s dismay.
Mom had everything from Bigfoot slippers with claws to bunny slippers with ears. Eventually she wore them out… or maybe dad took them outside and shot them….
Just think, if you had the matching fuzzy bathroom ensemble your feet could almost disappear!
