Remembering the 70s

A Simpler Time

Hawk the Slayer

We are momentarily escaping out of the 70s era to 1981 for the movie “Hawk the Slayer”. If I had a top 10 movie list as a child this movie would have been in it.  I loved this movie almost as much as “Excalibur”. The concepts of the characters were pretty cool, though the dwarf was a bit too comical for me. I even incorporated the automatic crossbow into my Dungeons and Dragons game. There is a bit of cheese to this movie but it still is a must see for you fantasy lovers.

Before Atari… there was pong

This isn’t the actual pong game, this is Ward’s version called APF. This one is actually in color. Our first pong game was black and white from, if I remember correctly, JCPenny. I couldn’t find a picture of that one, so I decided to use this one.

I loved the electronic era of the 70s and it stuck with me my entire life as I am still pretty much a computer geek today. What were some of your first electronic games?

King Arthur’s Castle Play Set

Now this is something I would have enjoyed a lot as a child. It is odd that I never asked for this for Christmas because the King Arthur’s Castle play set would have been right up my alley.

I love the amount of detail they put into this set. Though I do wish they would have put as much color into the play set as they did on the 20 piece knight add on package. But it would have been a lot of enjoyment regardless.

Mouse Trap!

Mouse Trap! from Ideal. I always wanted to play this game but I only knew one person who had it. And that person refused to play it because it took to long to set up. (lol) Did any of you get to play it?

Lancelot Link, The Secret Chimp

You will have to forgive me for the irregular posting times lately. Life has been rather busy for me this week. I hope to be as diligent as my other blogging friends, one of these days, and have my post ready to go weeks in advance!

Anyway, before I digress to much… I ordered up Lancelot Link from Netflix this week to check it out. I had not remembered this show from the 70s but it looked interesting and I just wanted to see if it sparked any forgotten memories.

Lancelot Link was a comedy that aired on ABC from Sept 12th, 1970 to Sept 2, 1972. It featured various chimps who were dubbed over with human voices in a sort of “Get Smart” type of show.

I watched the first episode and at that point I was pretty much done. It just wasn’t my type of comedy and nothing about the show brought back any forgotten memories. But if it was something you had enjoyed as a child you might find it fun to watch again as it is available on DVD now.

The Bionic Women Action Figure

Bionic Women began airing in 1976 as a spin off show off the Six Million Dollar Man. It became the 5th most popular show for that season. As with most popular shows a toy line was soon to follow.

This time Kenner comes to the rescue with the Bionic Women 12″ doll.

Many of the accessories include the repair station, inflatable dome, wrist radio, and a few outfit changes.

Did you have the Bionic Women action figure? What were some of your memories?
